This week's sound labs focus on mp3's, what they are and how they work. I had students bring in actual store bought totally legal music CDs (many students informed me they had none). We copied a track off as an original *.wav file using a free program called CDex.
We imported our files into Audacity and trimmed them down to 10 sec samples. We exported our samples at a variety of different bit rates. Tomorrow I'll have students compare the file sizes, audio quality, and appearance of the sonograms in Audacity.
