Wow, I haven't blogged for over two months. How'd I let that happen? Not sure, but we'll see if I can avoid that in the future. Like all teachers this is the busy time for year, but I can't let that stop me from having a bit of fun.
I recently acquired a really cool high speed camera off a Toshiba America Foundation Grant. I'll be using it next year for a project centering on the physics of sports. As we close out this year though, we (the students and I) have been playing with it a bit. Below is an AP Chem student doing a cool (or I should say HOT) demo, filmed at 250 frames/second. DON'T TRY THIS ONE AT HOME. The whole video encompasses about 3/4 of a second in real time.

That was beyond awesome! How do I get one of those cameras? :D
The camera runs $6,900!!! If you're interested I'll get you an email address of a guy who can sell you one ;-)
i'm a teacher and have been considering a high speed camera as a teaching tool. cool stuff. please post camera model no.
I got my SportsCam 500 from Motion Engineering Company, the Mid-West distributer for Fastec.
I'm running a Week long summer technology workshop at my school. As soon as it's done I plan on blogging about my camera. Check back in July for the full write-up/review.
Your next video could be a high speed of the sprinklers coming on. :-)
I suppose I should have looked up first to make sure none were above us. I did almost hit one of the sprinkler heads with one of those dollar store water rockets once.
